Dental Implants

Our first goal is always to save natural teeth. However, there are situations where removing a tooth is the only option. In these cases, a dental implant to replace the lost tooth is often considered.

Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed into the jaw bone to act as a new tooth root.

The timing of an implant can vary, but typically it is a 7-8 month process from tooth removal to completed crown.  We will place the implant and your general dentist will place a crown on the implant.

There are times where a dental implant can be placed at the time of tooth removal. This depends on multiple factors, and we will discuss this possibility with you at your initial examination.  This speeds up the treatment timeline, allowing you to have the crown sooner.

If a tooth has been missing for many years, or if the area is close to the sinus of the upper jaw, there may not be enough jaw bone present to place an implant.  In cases like this a bone graft may be recommended to rebuild the bone thickness. This can be done using bone from your jaw (autograft) or cadaver bone (allograft).
