Gum Disease

We specialize in treatment of gum disease. Causes of gum disease may include:

  • Poor dental hygiene

  • Smoking

  • Lack of previous dental care

  • Genetics

  • Problems with the bite

We will identify all possible factors and review how they may be affecting your situation.

We are a conservative periodontal practice. Initial treatment recommended is usually non-surgical scaling and root planing performed by the doctor. Basically, this is cleaning the tooth roots below the gumline while being numb. Please watch the video below for more information.

Periodontal (osseous) surgery is an option for treating more advanced forms of the disease. Gently moving the gum tissue allows better access for cleaning and allows reshaping of the bone surrounding the teeth. This allows gum reattachment and shrinkage of the gum pocket.

Guided tissue regeneration, or bone grafting, is a procedure that enables the re-growth of bone and tissue around an affected tooth. This treatment is only considered at the time of surgery.
